*CALL TO WORSHIP Psalm 91: 1-2, 9-16
You who live in the
shelter of the Most High, who abide in the shadow of the Almighty, will say to
the LORD,
"My
refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I
trust."
Because you have made the LORD your refuge, the Most High
your dwelling place,
no evil shall befall you, no scourge come near
your tent.
For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you
in all your ways.
On their hands they will
bear you up, so that you will not dash your foot against a stone.
You will tread on the lion and the adder, the young lion
and the serpent you will trample under foot.
Those who love me, I
will deliver; I will protect those who know my name.
When they call to me, I will answer them; I will be with
them in trouble, I will rescue them and honor them.
With long life I will
satisfy them, and show them my salvation.
*HYMN 71:
“On Eagle’s Wings” Dan Moor will
sing the 4 verses
(The version we use is
printed on the laminated card in the pew)
WELCOME & REGISTRATION
EXTENDED LIFE OF THE CHURCH
*OFFERING Grant
us Lord, the grace of giving,
With
a spirit large and free,
That
ourselves and all our living
We
may offer unto Thee.
RESPONSIVE CALL TO PRAYER
“When
you have come into the land that the LORD your God is giving you…”
“My country, ‘tis of thee,”
We
can say this, not because we have rights over Native Americans, but because…
“The earth is the Lord’s and all that
is in
it,”
So,
like the children of Israel, it is appropriate for us to bring to God an
offering of first fruits…
Remembering in our giving, that we are who we are, and
where we are, because of God’s grace.
So
now, as we gather together: native and immigrant, children of slaves and former
slave owners…
We must confess ourselves to be offspring of wandering
people, who only have a sense of rooted ness because of your grace O Lord. Amen.
*HYMN 580: “O God of Love, Enable Me”
THE
LETTERS: Romans 10: 8b - 13 pg. 985
SERMON:
“Who Are We?”
*INVITATION
HYMN 2246: “Deep in the Shadows of the
Past”
Decisions of
faith are personal decisions. It is for
us to choose if we will believe in God.
Decisions of faith are also public and corporate decisions. When we choose to follow Jesus we are
choosing to become part of the “Body of Christ”, the Church. If you would like to confirm the decision you
have made to begin your life of faith or continue that life as a part of this
congregation, come forward as we sing the invitational hymn and speak with the
worship leader about your decision.
