PRELUDE : “Reverie At Dawn” Edward Broughton
INTROIT
I love the LORD, because he
has heard my voice and my supplications.
Because he inclined his ear to me,
therefore I
will call on him as long as I live.
What shall I return to the
LORD for all his bounty to me?
I will lift
up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the LORD, I will pay my vows to
the LORD in the presence of all his people.
Precious in the sight of
the LORD is the death of his faithful ones. O LORD, I am your servant; I am
your servant, the child of your serving girl. You have loosed my bonds.
I will offer
to you a thanksgiving sacrifice and call on the name of the LORD.
I will pay my vows to the
LORD in the presence of all his people, in the courts of the house of the LORD,
in your midst, O
Praise the
LORD!
*HYMN
352: “Faith of Our Fathers”
EXTENDED LIFE OF THE CHURCH
ANTHEM: “O, Master Let Me Walk With Thee” By H.
P. Smith/R.
PRAYER FROM
THE PEOPLE: Tammy Geelhaar
*OFFERING Grant
us Lord, the grace of giving,
With
a spirit large and free,
That
ourselves and all our living
We
may offer unto Thee.
SCRIPTURE: Matthew 9: 35-10:15 pg. 843

RESPONSIVE
CALL TO PRAYER:
I think it was Blanche
DuBois, in
“I have
always relied on the kindness of strangers.”
I think that Blanche was
talking about the illicit affairs which had marked her life, but even beyond
that sexual referent…
I would
prefer not to have to rely on the kindness of strangers.
Imagine being sent out as
Jesus’ disciples were sent, with the instruction…
“Whatever town
or village you enter, find out who in it is worthy, and stay there until you
leave.”
We are Americans, an
independent, self-reliant people, we don’t need to go hat in hand to strangers…
God, who
calls us to follow Jesus, help us to hear that call as a challenge to our
prideful self-sufficiency. May we truly
follow this humble Jesus, born in a stable, and who even confessed himself to
be without “a place to lay his head.” Amen.
HYMN
282: “Living for Jesus”
HEBREW
BIBLE: Genesis 18: 1-15 Pg. 13
SERMON: “You Can’t Be Too Careful”
*INVITATION
HYMN 417: “Trusting Jesus”
Decisions of
faith are personal decisions. It is for
us to choose if we will believe in God.
Decisions of faith are also public and corporate decisions. When we choose to follow Jesus we are
choosing to become part of the “Body of Christ”, the Church. If you would like to confirm the decision you
have made to begin your life of faith or continue that life as a part of this
congregation, come forward as we sing the invitational hymn and speak with the
worship leader about your decision.
*BENEDICTION/RESPONSE
POSTLUDE: “The
Light From On Nigh” David Paxton
* Congregation standing.
Father’s Day
The flowers are given in honor and in memory of
all the fathers in our congregation.
If you have a special prayer request please fill out a pink card, found in the pews, bring it forward and place it on the communion table either before the service or during the first hymn.
