PRELUDE:     “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God”   by J. S. Bach

INTROIT

*CALL TO WORSHIP                       Habakkuk 1: 2-4; 2: 1-4

O LORD, how long shall I cry for help, and you will not listen? Or cry to you "Violence!" and you will not save?

Why do you make me see wrong-doing and look at

trouble?

Destruction and violence are before me; strife and contention arise. So the law becomes slack and justice never prevails.

The wicked surround the righteous-- therefore judgment comes forth perverted.

I will stand at my watchpost, and station myself on the rampart; I will keep watch to see what he will say to me, and what he will answer concerning my complaint. Then the LORD answered me and said:

Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so that a runner may read it.

For there is still a vision for the appointed time; it speaks of the end, and does not lie. If it seems to tarry, wait for it; it will surely come, it will not delay.

Look at the proud! Their spirit is not right in them, but the righteous live by their faith.

RESPONSIVE CALL TO PRAYER:

Paul, Silas, and Timothy gave thanks for the brothers and sisters of Thessalonika, whose faith was growing abundantly…

Despite the persecutions and the afflictions being

endured.

Faith that is growing and expanding is frequently pushing the boundaries and accepted norms…

            It invites persecutions and afflictions.

Faith that is growing is alive in its own age, speaking in modern idiom to modern issues…

Seeking to reform what has become enshrined, concrete,

and lifeless.

So may we, with resolve, continue the work of reformation in the Church.

May we step, with faith, trusting that God's power can and will work through our faithful response.  Amen.

*INVITATION HYMN 2202:     "Come Away With Me"

Decisions of faith are personal decisions.  It is for us to choose if we will believe in God.  Decisions of faith are also public and corporate decisions.  When we choose to follow Jesus we are choosing to become part of the “Body of Christ”, the Church.  If you would like to confirm the decision you have made to begin your life of faith or continue that life as a part of this congregation, come forward as we sing the invitational hymn and speak with the worship leader about your decision.

The Church is in urgent need of Tellers (those who count our Sunday offerings). The counting is usually done on the weekday and deposit is made into the bank. This does not require one to be an accountant, just the ability to count money. You would be on a team of two doing this only once a month.  If you would consider helping us with this,  please speak with Fred Weimert or call the Church office.
