PRELUDE “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God” by Max Reger
Come, O children, listen to
me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
Which of you desires life, and covets many days to enjoy good? Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips
from speaking deceit.
Depart from
evil, and do good; seek peace, and
pursue it.
The eyes of the LORD are on
the righteous, and God’s ears are open to their cry.
The face of
the LORD is against evildoers, to cut off the remembrance of them from the
earth.
When the righteous cry for
help, the LORD hears, and rescues them from all their troubles.
The LORD is
near to the brokenhearted, and saves the crushed in spirit.
Many are the afflictions of
the righteous, but the LORD rescues them from them all.
The Lord keeps
all their bones; not one of them will be broken.
Evil brings death to the
wicked, and those who hate the righteous will be condemned.
The LORD
redeems the life of his servants; none of those who take refuge in him will be
condemned.

CHILDREN’S TIME:
HEBREW
BIBLE: Job: 42: 1-17 pg. 464 read by Kathy Wright
RESPONSIVE CALL TO PRAYER:
After all of the anger had
been vented…
After all of
the vitriolic bile had been poured out by Job and his friends…
After God had bellowed on about
Job’s naive arrogance in questioning, and probably after a prolonged period of
silent reflection…
“Job answered the Lord.”
And included in that
response were words of apology and repentance.
I don’t know that I would have been that easy on
God.
I doubt that we would
be. If the truth were known, when we
have a knock down and drag out fight with God, we walk away and don’t look
back.
If we get what
we want we, are satisfied. If we don’t get what we want, we sulk.
UNISON: God who is both known and beyond our knowing,
forgive us for the times when we, in anger, have erupted in your presence, as
if you neither see nor care. Forgive us
for those times when we have not apologized for our ill informed
accusations. Most of all thank you for
the healing and deliverance you have given us in life. Amen.
*HYMN
330: “Amazing Grace! How Sweet the
Sound”
THE
GOSPEL: Mark 10: 46-52 pg. 879
