*CALL TO WORSHIP:                                  by Lavon Bayler

Come, children of God, to sing a new song;

 clap your hands and shout for joy.

            Jesus is our good news,

our joy, and our salvation.

In steadfast love and faithfulness

God has done marvelous things.

God raised Jesus from the dead:

Christ is alive and at work among us.

The Rejected One has become faith’s cornerstone;

 there is salvation in no one else.

No other name is given among earth’s people

than Jesus, by whom we are being saved.

*HYMN 161:       “Crown Him with Many Crowns”

INVOCATION FOLLOWED BY THE LORD’S PRAYER

EXTENDED LIFE OF THE CHURCH

THE GOSPEL:            John 10: 11-18                       pg.  933   read by: Judy Weimert

RESPONSIVE CALL TO PRAYER:

We think of them together, but not as one…

            Shepherds and lambs.

When we think of good shepherds, our thoughts turn to one who keeps the sheep safe…

            Until it is time for them to be taken to market.

Lambs are raised for food and profit, so there is an essential sense of detachment…

            Between shepherds and lambs.

But with Jesus’ incarnation the line of distinction became blurred…

            Between Shepherd and Lamb.

As Good Shepherd

            Jesus came to lead…

As Lamb of God

            Jesus came to take away the sin of the earth.

UNISON:  Good Shepherd, Lamb of God, Make us pure and lead us in ‘paths of righteousness’ to be your namesake.  Amen.

SHARING THE BREAD                                          #372

According to Thy gracious Word In meek humility

This will I do, my loving Lord: I will remember Thee.

Thy body given for my sake, My bread from heav’n shall be:

Thy testamental cup I take, And thus remember Thee.

SHARING THE CUP                                                            #373

pond’ring Your love with cup and bread.
