PRELUDE          “Thine Is The Glory”     by G. F. Handel

INTROIT

*CALL TO WORSHIP                                  Psalm 4

Answer me when I call, O God of my right! You gave me room when I was in distress.

Be gracious to me, and hear my prayer.

How long, you people, shall my honor suffer shame?

How long will you love vain words, and seek after

lies?

But know that the LORD has set apart the faithful for himself;

the LORD hears when I call to him.

When you are disturbed, do not sin; ponder it on your beds, and be silent.

Offer right sacrifices, and put your trust in the

LORD.

There are many who say, "O that we might see some good!

Let the light of your face shine on us, O LORD!"

You have put gladness in my heart more than when their grain and wine abound.

I will both lie down and sleep in peace; for you alone, O LORD, make me lie down in safety.

RESPONSIVE CALL TO PRAYER:

Holy God, John struggled with the issue of sin and the community of faith…

“No one who abides in him sins;”

In much the same fashion Paul struggled, in Romans, with the same issue:

“How can we who died to sin go on living in it?”

We know that this is a question as old as time.  It was the issue that necessitated the guard at Eden’s gate.

“How can a Holy God, commune with sinful

people?”

As Christians we thank you for Jesus, this one who so symbolized your grace in human flesh… living in our midst.

Through him we understand your grace and

forgiveness.

Yet, the world continues to be confused by the sin in the midst of the community of faith… “Why aren’t they more faithful?”

God, who called us to be a Holy priesthood, guide our feet to walk with greater humility and love, so that others may come to follow in our steps and in the end find You.  Amen.

*HYMN 2208:             “Guide my Feet”

GOSPEL:                      Luke 24: 15-35                      pg. 920

SERMON:              “Are We There Yet?”

*INVITATION HYMN 484:   “Higher Ground”

Decisions of faith are personal decisions.  It is for us to choose if we will believe in God.  Decisions of faith are also public and corporate decisions.  When we choose to follow Jesus we are choosing to become part of the “Body of Christ”, the Church.  If you would like to confirm the decision you have made to begin your life of faith or continue that life as a part of this congregation, come forward as we sing the invitational hymn and speak with the worship leader about your decision.
