INTROIT

*CALL TO WORSHIP                                  Psalm 133

How very good and pleasant it is when kindred live together in unity!

It is like the precious oil on the head,

running down upon the beard, on the beard of Aaron,

running down over the collar of his robes.

It is like the dew of Hermon,

which falls on the mountains of Zion.

For there the LORD ordained his blessing,

life forevermore.

RECOGNITION OF TEACHERS:

RESPONSIVE PRAYER:

Teaching, in these days, teaching can be such a difficult task.

Students learn so differently.  Some get it at first glance and others need more tangible lessons, with manipulatives.

Children use to be brought to Sunday School every week, but now it is rare for children to come twice a month.

And missing a lesson might mean missing a crucial concept, as happened to Thomas.

The most serious problem is that learning the facts in a Bible story is not the same as grasping the heart of the teaching.

Learning is a life time process.  As minds mature they are able to comprehend the truth which may lie beneath a literal understanding.

God, whose miraculous working is most affective when there is openness.  We thank you for these teachers who have opened themselves, through prayer and study, to teach those that come to learn.

We pray that students might come, equally open, to receive your gifts through these your servants.  Amen.

*HYMN 502:        “Open My Eyes, That I May See”

SCRIPTURE:                  Acts 4: 32-35                      pg. 951

SERMON:       “This is No Time to Talk of Money”

* HYMN 604:        “Come All Christians, Be Committed”

Decisions of faith are personal decisions.  It is for us to choose if we will believe in God.  Decisions of faith are also public and corporate decisions.  When we choose to follow Jesus we are choosing to become part of the “Body of Christ”, the Church.  If you would like to confirm the decision you have made to begin your life of faith or continue that life as a part of this congregation, come forward as we sing the invitational hymn and speak with the worship leader about your decision.

Take my instruction instead of silver,

and knowledge rather than choice gold;

for wisdom is better than jewels,

and all that you may desire cannot compare with her.

Proverbs 8: 10 - 11

If you have a special prayer request please fill out a pink card, found in the pews, bring it forward and place it on the communion table either before the service or during the first hymn.
