INTROIT

*CALL TO WORSHIP                       by Peggy A. Haymes

From: Be Thou Present pg. 5

Worship is a gift from God.

In worship, we are invited to come into the very presence of God, to be met by God's grace and encircled by God's love.

Worship is a promise.

In worship, we see the vision of the day yet to come, the hope of what is yet to be.  In this present hour we wait for the coming kingdom.

Worship is demand.

In worship, God demands from us the best of our heads and our hearts.  God demands of us our very lives.

With gratitude and joy, promise and hope, commitment and dedication, let us worship the Lord our God.

UNISON PRAYER:                            by Stanley Hauerwas

                                    from: Prayers Plainly Spoken pg.95

"Forgiving Lord, I do not want my enemies forgiven.  I want you to kill them (as sometimes prays the psalmist!). Actually, I would prefer to pray that you punish them rather than kill them, since I would like to watch them suffer.  Also, I fear losing my enemies, since my hates are more precious to me than my loves.  If I lost my hates, my enemies, how would I know who I am?  Yet you have bent us toward reconciliation, that we may be able to pass one another Christ's peace.  It is a terrible thing to ask of us.  I'm sure I cannot do it, but you are a wily God able to accomplish miracles.  May we be struck alive with the miracle of your grace, even to being reconciled with ourselves.  Amen."

Decisions of faith are personal decisions.  It is for us to choose if we will believe in God.  Decisions of faith are also public and corporate decisions.  When we choose to follow Jesus we are choosing to become part of the “Body of Christ”, the Church.  If you would like to confirm the decision you have made to begin your life of faith or continue that life as a part of this congregation, come forward as we sing the invitational hymn and speak with the worship leader about your decision.
