PRELUDE       “Heeding the Call”     by Tom Birchwood

INTROIT

*CALL TO WORSHIP                      Psalm 105: 1-6, 37-42a

O give thanks to the LORD, call on his name, make known the Lord’s deeds among the peoples.

Sing to God, sing praises to God; tell of all his wonderful works.

Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice.

Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually.

Remember the wonderful works the Lord has done, his miracles, and the judgments uttered,

O offspring of his servant Abraham, children of Jacob, God’s chosen ones.

Then God brought Israel out with silver and gold, and there was no one among their tribes who stumbled.

Egypt was glad when they departed, for dread of them had fallen upon it.

God spread a cloud for a covering, and fire to give light by night. They asked, and the Lord brought quails, and gave them food from heaven in abundance.  God opened the rock, and water gushed out; it flowed through the desert like a river.

For he remembered his holy promise…

RESPONSIVE CALL TO PRAYER:

The wilderness had quickly done its work. In a matter of days it had made Israel forget the suffering of slavery…

Remember, “when we sat by the fleshpots and ate our fill of bread.”

Hardships have a way of twisting the mind of the sufferer into seeing even the bad days in the past…

            As the good old days.

Lord God, forgive us when, forgetting Your mighty works of deliverance in the past, we ask that impertinent question…

What have You done for me lately?

Forgive us when You have laid out Your miraculous works of providence before us, like a mother serving dinner, and the only response she hears from her children is…

            What is that?

UNISON:  Lord God help us to recognize Your grace in this day.  Amen.

Decisions of faith are personal decisions.  It is for us to choose if we will believe in God.  Decisions of faith are also public and corporate decisions.  When we choose to follow Jesus we are choosing to become part of the “Body of Christ”, the Church.  If you would like to confirm the decision you have made to begin your life of faith or continue that life as a part of this congregation, come forward as we sing the invitational hymn and speak with the worship leader about your decision.
