10:45   Service of Anointing: a time for special prayer

PRELUDE:        “Devotion”              by Robert Thygerson

INTROIT

*CALL TO WORSHIP:                     Psalm 19: 1-7,

The heavens are telling the glory of God;

and the firmament proclaims his handiwork.

Day to day pours forth speech,

and night to night declares knowledge.

There is no speech, nor are there words;

their voice is not heard;

yet their voice goes out through all the earth,

and their words to the end of the world.

In the heavens he has set a tent for the sun, which comes out like a bridegroom from his wedding canopy,

and like a strong man runs its course with joy.

Its rising is from the end of the heavens, and its circuit to the end of them;

and nothing is hid from its heat.

The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul;

the decrees of the LORD are sure, making wise the

simple;

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to you,

O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.

UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION

God, whose voice can be likened to lightening and thunder, we have to confess that such stormy language can scare us, as it did Israel.  So we have joined them in asking, that if you are going to speak in that way, we would prefer that you speak to someone else, someone like Moses.  Then, when that individual tells us what they heard, we can decide if we will believe them or not.  In that way for centuries your children, including us, have eluded the responsibility for not listening to You.  We just didn’t listen to Moses, or the prophets, and even Your incarnate Word.  Forgive us Lord for closing our ears to You.

WORDS OF ASSURANCE:

“…if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”          II Chronicles 2: 7: 14

SHARING THE BREAD                              #366

Let us break bread together on our knees,

Let us break bread together on our knees;

When I fall on my knees, With my face to the rising sun,

O Lord, have mercy on me.

Let us praise God together on our knees,

Let us praise God together on our knees;

When I fall on my knees, With my face to the rising sun,

O Lord, have mercy on me.

SHARING THE CUP                                                #368

Here at your table, Lord, This sacred hour,

O let us feel You near, In loving power;

Calling our thoughts away From self and sin,

As to Your banquet hall We enter in.

Come then, O holy Christ, Feed us, we pray;

Touch with Your pierced hand Each common day,

Making this earthly life Full of Your grace,

Till, in the home of heaven, We find our place.
