CHORAL INTROIT:

*CALL TO WORSHIP                        Psalm 72: 1-7, 10-12

Give the king your justice, O God,

and your righteousness to a king's son.

May he judge your people with righteousness,

and your poor with justice.

May the mountains yield prosperity for the people,

and the hills, in righteousness.

May he defend the cause of the poor of the people,

give deliverance to the needy, and crush the

oppressor.

May he live while the sun endures, and as long as the moon,

            throughout all generations.

May he be like rain that falls on the mown grass,

like showers that water the earth.

In his days may righteousness flourish and peace abound,

until the moon is no more.

May the kings of Tarshish and of the isles render him tribute,

may the kings of Sheba and Seba bring gifts.

May all kings fall down before him,

all nations give him service.

For he delivers the needy when they call,

the poor and those who have no helper.

God who sends out invitations, in stars and sacred texts, welcoming us to come and find you, forgive us for taking so long to respond… or for sending others in our place.  Or forgive us for being so foolish as to think that we were the only ones who You’ve invited.  May our hearts be open to come and kneel beside others, who appear to us to be unwelcome, but who are just as loved by You.

SHARING THE BREAD                    #115

Fear not to enter His presence in poverty,

Bearing no gifts to present as your own.

Bring truth in its beauty, and love in its purity

These are the offerings to lay at His throne.

SHARING THE CUP                          #85   vs. 3,4

And by the light of that same star

The wise men came from country far;

To seek for a king was their intent,

And to follow the star where ever it went.

Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, Born is the King of Israel.

Then let us all with one accord

Sing praises to our heavenly Lord

Who hath made heav’n and earth of naught,

And with His blood mankind hath bought.

Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, Born is the King of Israel.
