PRELUDE:                  “Joy in God”                by Richard Blake

INTROIT

*CALL TO WORSHIP:                                   Psalm 99

The LORD is Ruler;

let the peoples tremble!

God sits enthroned upon the cherubim;

let the earth quake!

The LORD is great in Zion;

God is exalted over all the peoples.

Let them praise your great and awesome name.

Holy is God!

Mighty Ruler, lover of justice, you have established equity; you have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob.

Extol the LORD our God; worship at the Lord’s footstool. Holy is God!

Moses and Aaron were among God’s priests, Samuel also was among those who called on the Lord’s name.

They cried to the LORD, and God answered them.

God spoke to them in the pillar of cloud; they kept God’s decrees,

and the statutes given them.

O LORD our God, you answered them; you were a forgiving God to them,

but an avenger of their wrongdoings.

Extol the LORD our God, and worship at God’s holy mountain;

            for the LORD our God is holy.

UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION:     by Lavon Bayler

We confess, glorious God, that our minds have been hardened in narrow ways of thinking and self-satisfied means of responding to people and circumstances.  We like systems that favor our advantages, and welcome freedom for ourselves more than for those whom we oppress.  We have tampered with your word to make it serve our own ends.  Forgive us, O God, and expand the horizons of our understanding and caring. Amen.

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS:

God answers our prayers and is forgiving toward us.  In Christ the veil is lifted from our minds and we are changed in the likeness of our creator.  By God’s mercy we are entrusted with a ministry to one another and to our world.  Embrace God’s truth and do not lose heart.

SHARING THE BREAD                                            #509

            Your love, O God, has called us here,

for all love finds its source in You,

The perfect love that casts out fear,

The love that Christ makes ever new.

O gracious God, You consecrate

All that is lovely, good, and true.

Bless those who in Your presence wait

And ev’ry day their love renew.

SHARING THE CUP                                                  #372

In Meek humility,

This will I do, my loving Lord:

My bread from heav’n shall be:

Thy testamental cup I take,

And thus remember Thee.
