PRELUDE “With Prayerful Heart”
by Bertha R. Frick
INTROIT 2226: "Bind Us Together"
*CALL TO WORSHIP Psalm 45: 1-2, 6-9
My heart overflows with a goodly theme; I address my verses to the
king;
my tongue is like the pen of a ready scribe.
You are the most handsome of men; grace is poured upon your lips;
therefore God has blessed you forever.
Your throne, O God, endures forever and ever.
Your royal scepter is a scepter of equity;
you love righteousness and hate wickedness. Therefore God,
your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your
companions;

RESPONSIVE CALL TO PRAYER:
There is something about being young and in love…
Both being in love, and being young.
To be inebriated with the wine of infatuation…
Frozen in place by the visage of the beloved.
With heart and legs to leap and bound…
And rootless enough to respond to the call "Come
away."
There is something about being young and in love…
May we never grow so old as to forget it.
May our hearts never become so hard as not to be able to leap up.
May we never be so rooted, as not to respond to the
call… "Come Away." Amen.
*HYMN 509: "Your Love, O God, Has Called Us Here"
THE GOSPEL: Mark 7: 1-23 pg. 874
SERMON: The Nature of Love
*INVITATION HYMN 2230:
"Lord, We Come to Ask Your Blessing"
Decisions of faith are personal decisions. It is for us to choose
if we will believe in God. Decisions of faith are also public and
corporate decisions. When we choose to follow Jesus we are choosing
to become part of the “Body of Christ”, the Church.
If you would like to confirm the decision you have made to begin
your life of faith or continue that life as a part of this congregation,
come forward as we sing the invitational hymn and speak with the
worship leader about your decision.
*BENEDICTION/RESPONSE
POSTLUDE: “Te Deum Landamus”

Love and Law
True Love is founded in rocks of Remembrance
In stones of Forbearance and mortar of Pain.
The workman lays wearily granite on granite,
And bleeds for his castle 'mid sunshine and rain.
Love is not velvet, not all of it velvet,
Not all of it banners, not gold-leaf alone.
'Tis stern as the ages and old as Religion.
With Patience its watchword, and Law for its throne.
