PRELUDE “Jesus Is
Caring”
INTROIT
*CALL
TO WORSHIP
O God, the nations have come
into your inheritance; they have defiled your holy temple;
they have laid
They have given the bodies
of your servants to the birds of the air for food,
the flesh of
your faithful to the wild animals of the
earth.
They have poured out their
blood like water all around
We have become
a taunt to our neighbors, mocked and derided by those around us.
How long, O LORD? Will you
be angry forever? Will your jealous wrath burn like fire?
Pour out your
anger on the nations that do not know you, and on the kingdoms that do not call
on your name.
For they have devoured Jacob
and laid waste his habitation.
Do not remember against us
the iniquities of our ancestors; let your compassion come speedily to meet us,
for we are brought very low.
Help us, O God
of our salvation, for the glory of your name; deliver us, and forgive our sins,
for your name's sake.
*HYMN

RESPONSIVE CALL TO PRAYER:
This is such a difficult
story to understand… are we to be faithful with little or much…
Or are we to make friends with dishonest wealth?
This manager was certainly
shrewd about his personal business…
He may have been a good manager of the master’s
wealth, at one time.
Maybe he got to feeling that
since the master was rich
The master would want the manager to look
successful as well.
Maybe the manager just
started with some innocent inflation of expenses.
To put a little more money in his own pocket.
But what does it teach us?
That all our gain is ill gotten?
That we really aren’t
entitled to anything special?
That everything really belongs to the master?
God of all, at times, our
past success can get to feeling that we are entitled to what we have and more.
Make us shrewd
to see that the gains we have are not for our personal use; our gifts, our
gains,. have been given to make friends for You. May we be about this reconciling
ministry. Amen.
*HYMN

HEBREW
BIBLE: Jeremiah 8: 18-9: 1 pg. 657

*INVITATION
HYMN 385: “In Christ There Is No
East or West”
Decisions of
faith are personal decisions. It is for
us to choose if we will believe in God.
Decisions of faith are also public and corporate decisions. When we choose to follow Jesus we are
choosing to become part of the “Body of Christ”, the Church. If you would like to confirm the decision you
have made to begin your life of faith or continue that life as a part of this
congregation, come forward as we sing the invitational hymn and speak with the
worship leader about your decision.
*BENEDICTION/RESPONSE
