*CALL TO WORSHIP                                    Psalm 98: 1-4

O sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things.

God’s right hand and his holy arm have gotten the victory.

The LORD has made known his victory;

God has revealed his vindication in the

sight of the nations.

He has remembered his steadfast love and faithfulness to the house of Israel.

All the ends of the earth have seen the

victory of our God.

Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth;

break forth into joyous song and sing

praises.

HYMN 39:      “Rejoice, Ye Pure in Heart”

RESPONSIVE CALL TO PRAYER:

Humanity is pictured as both fish and an arrogant fisherman…

          Who “sacrifices to his net, and burns

          incense to his seine.”

The catch is plentiful and the fisherman lives in luxury, but his bounty is a product of…

          His “mercilessly slaying the nations.”

The prophet watchman takes position in a tower to observe and to…

          “Write the vision, make it plain.”

“The one whose soul is not upright ,“ because of treachery… arrogance… greed…,  “shall fail.  The righteous shall live by faith.”

God, who calls us to right living, we strive to be faithful but we are surrounded by many, who do not believe that You are God or that You care.  In greed this earth has been plundered, and we wonder how many righteous people it will take to deliver it from wrath.  Will we be enough?  Lord, keep us from temptation, and open more hearts to live with reverence.  Amen.
