PRELUDE “Prelude in E Flat” by Scotson Clark
INTROIT
*CALL
TO WORSHIP Psalm 5:
1-8
Give ear to my words, O
LORD;
give heed to my sighing.
Listen to the sound of my
cry, my Ruler and my God,
for to you I pray.
O LORD, in the morning you
hear my voice;
in the morning I plead my case to you, and watch.
For you are not a God who
delights in wickedness;
evil will not sojourn with you.
The boastful will not stand
before your eyes;
you hate all evildoers.
You destroy those who speak
lies;
the LORD abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful.
But I, through the
abundance of your steadfast love, will enter your house,
I will bow down toward your holy temple
in awe of you.
Lead me, O LORD, in your
righteousness because of my enemies;
make your way straight before me.
*HYMN

Jehovah”
EXTENDED LIFE OF THE CHURCH
PRAYER FROM THE PEOPLE: Doug Thomas
With
a spirit large and free,
That
ourselves and all our living
We
may offer unto Thee.
SCRIPTURE:
Galatians 2: 15-21 pg. 1013
RESPONSIVE CALL TO PRAYER:
Those two simple
words, so fraught with judgment, roll so easily off Paul’s tongue… “Gentile
sinners.”
Just as a Southerner might say “damned
Yankee.”
And in some ways it was the
same. They spoke a different language—followed
different customs.
They weren’t like us! Certainly
not in
God’s eyes!
Our customs… ways… laws… are
right and true.
They must be God’s ways.
In encountering Jesus, the
one who was the way, Paul discovered that his ways were not necessarily God’s
way.
In fact he, who thought he was “blameless
under the law,“ discovered he was a
sinner.
God of the incarnation, in
Jesus you showed us what it meant to walk in a godly fashion in relationship
to the world.
May we be crucified with Christ, so that
Christ may live in us. Amen.
*HYMN
501: “Jesu, Jesu, Fill Us with
Your Love”
THE
GOSPEL: Luke 7: 36 - 8: 3 pg. 897
SERMON: “What Makes You So Sure”
*INVITATION
HYMN 2236: “Gather Us In”
Decisions of
faith are personal decisions. It is for
us to choose if we will believe in God.
Decisions of faith are also public and corporate decisions. When we choose to follow Jesus we are
choosing to become part of the “Body of Christ”, the Church. If you would like to confirm the decision you
have made to begin your life of faith or continue that life as a part of this
congregation, come forward as we sing the invitational hymn and speak with the
worship leader about your decision.
*BENEDICTION/RESPONSE “Benediction” by Franz Schubert
POSTLUDE: “Postlude
in F” by Gordon Williams
* Congregation standing.
Father’s Day;
The flowers are
given in honor and in memory of
all the fathers in our congregation.
If you have a special prayer request
please fill out a pink card, found in the pews, bring it forward and place
it on the communion table either before the service or during the first hymn.
