PRELUDE                     “Take My Hand, Dear Jesus ”

                                                By Michael Shea

INTROIT 2208:          “Guide My Feet”                     (Verse 1)

*CALL TO WORSHIP                        Psalm 30: 1-8, 10-11

I will extol you, O LORD, for you have drawn me up, and did not let my foes rejoice over me.

O LORD my God, I cried to you for help, and you have healed me.

O LORD, you brought up my soul from Sheol, restored me to life from among those gone down to the Pit.

Sing praises to the LORD, O you his faithful ones, and give thanks to his holy name.

For his anger is but for a moment; his favor is for a lifetime.

Weeping may linger for the night, but joy comes with the morning.

As for me, I said in my prosperity, "I shall never be moved." By your favor, O LORD, you had established me as a strong mountain; you hid your face; I was dismayed.

To you, O LORD, I cried, and to the LORD I made supplication:

Hear, O LORD, and be gracious to me! O LORD, be my helper!"

You have turned my mourning into dancing; you have taken off my sackcloth and clothed me with joy,

RESPONSIVE CALL TO PRAYER:

It is interesting in this story of the sending out of the seventy…

There is no mention of power being given.

When the twelve were sent out Jesus said he would give them power…

But here there is no mention of power.

Maybe the power was still with them from before.

Like in court when people recalled to the stand are told you are still under oath.

They were told they could cure the sick.

But we are not told the nature of the disease or ailment.

It says demons submitted and Satan fell.

But Paul said in Romans 12 that we could overcome evil with good.

God, who sends us out like lambs into the midst of wolves, give us courage to trust your presence with us.  Help us to use the simple gifts, given us, to accomplish great tasks in Your name.  Amen.

*INVITATION HYMN 607:  “Something for Thee”

Decisions of faith are personal decisions.  It is for us to choose if we will believe in God.  Decisions of faith are also public and corporate decisions.  When we choose to follow Jesus we are choosing to become part of the “Body of Christ”, the Church.  If you would like to confirm the decision you have made to begin your life of faith or continue that life as a part of this congregation, come forward as we sing the invitational hymn and speak with the worship leader about your decision.
