CALL TO WORSHIP              Psalm 122: 1-6

I was glad when they said to me, "Let us go to the house of the LORD!"

Our feet are standing within your gates, O

Jerusalem.

Jerusalem--built as a city that is bound firmly together.

To it the tribes go up, the tribes of the LORD, as was decreed for Israel, to give thanks to the name of the LORD.

For there the thrones for judgment were set up, the thrones of the house of David.

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: "May they prosper who love you.

RESPONSIVE CALL TO PRAYER:

The irony of this weekend should not be obscured by the light of one little advent candle.  Yesterday was the Army/Navy football game, and today we read…

            “Neither shall they learn war any more.”

That irony reminds us that we have not yet arrived… that we are still in the day to day…

            We are not “in the days to come…”

We find ourselves praying that we will win our wars, and lead the world…

Lord, help us to wait and pray for war to end, and for Your rule to come on earth.  Amen.

SHARING THE BREAD                                              # 86

How silently, how silently The wondrous Gift is given!

So God imparts to human hearts The blessings of His heaven.

No ear may hear His coming, But in this world of sin,

Where meek souls will receive Him still,

The dear Christ enters in.

O holy Child of Bethlehem! Descend to us, we pray;

Cast out our sin, and enter in, Be born in us today!

We hear the Christmas angels, The great glad  tidings tell;

O come to us, abide with us, Our Lord Immanuel!   Amen.

SHARING THE CUP                                                   # 76

O Come, Thou Day-spring, come and cheer

our spirits by Thine advent here;

Disperse the gloomy clouds of night,

and death’s dark shadows put to flight.

Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel

Shall come to thee O Israel!

GREET EACH OTHER WITH THE PEACE OF CHRIST
