*CALL TO WORSHIP                                    Psalm 71: 1 - 6

In you, O LORD, I take refuge;

let me never be put to shame.

In your righteousness deliver me and rescue me;

incline your ear to me and save me.

Be to me a rock of refuge, a strong fortress, to save me,

for you are my rock and my fortress.

Rescue me, O my God, from the hand of the wicked,

from the grasp of the unjust and cruel.

For you, O Lord, are my hope,

my trust, O LORD, from my youth.

Upon you I have leaned from my birth;

it was you who took me from my mother's

womb.

UNISON:  My praise is continually of you.

RESPONSIVE CALL TO PRAYER

Apparently Jeremiah wasn’t very old when he was called By God.

“Truly I do not know how to speak, for I am only a boy.”

His initial attempts at political speaking… public prophecy… must have been received with some patronizing humor.

“My, don’t you sound like a big boy?  Why don’t you go home until you grow into some of those ideas?

I am sure that as he began to gather a following… and the king began to listen to his harsh pronouncements… from God…  His parents may have been called in…

Have you heard your son?  Are these your ideas?  If they are, we may just have to have you removed from the priesthood.—You’ll  talk to him?  Good.

It is tragic that adults have a hard time speaking the word of God… Sad that it frequently takes young people to speak first.

We have too much to lose. and we know how hard it is to change the status quo… It is just easier to go with the flow.

UNISON:  Lord God, give us courage to speak even when others say shush…  Give us the courage to speak of your concern for the earth, even when earth’s leaders say “we are doing what’s best.”

*HYMN 568:     “Lord, Speak to Me, that I May Speak”

THE GOSPEL:            Luke 13: 10-17                        pg. 906

SERMON:                   “Standing Tall”

*INVITATION HYMN 2238:

“In the Midst of New Dimensions”

Decisions of faith are personal decisions.  It is for us to choose if we will believe in God.  Decisions of faith are also public and corporate decisions.  When we choose to follow Jesus we are choosing to become part of the “Body of Christ”, the Church.  If you would like to confirm the decision you have made to begin your life of faith or continue that life as a part of this congregation, come forward as we sing the invitational hymn and speak with the worship leader about your decision.
