PRELUDE:      “Holy, Holy, Holy”      J. Dykes/L. Smith

INTROIT

*CALL TO WORSHIP:

O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is thy name in all the earth!

            Thou whose glory above the heavens is chanted by the mouth of babes and infants,

thou hast founded a bulwark because of thy foes,

            to still the enemy and the avenger.

When I look at thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars which thou hast established;

            what is man that thou art mindful of him, and the

            son of man that thou dost care for him?

Yet thou hast made him little less than God, and dost crown him with glory and honor.

            Thou hast given him dominion over the works of thy

            hands; thou hast put all things under his feet,

all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the sea.

            O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is thy name in all

            the earth!

UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION:         by Lavon Bayler

Spirit of truth, we recognize the high hopes in which we were given birth and the many ways in which we have failed others, ourselves, and you.  We have taken for granted the gift of life in all its variety of plant and animal forms.  We have scarred the face of the earth with our lust for power and wealth.  We have neglected the people you have invited us to love, while worshiping at the altars of our own success.  Forgive us, God, and help us to change the habits that destroy.  Amen.

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS:

When we are truly sorry for the brokenness we have caused, God offers healing and forgiveness. We are justified by faith and have peace with God through Jesus Christ.  The Spirit of truth will guide us into all the truth.

SHARING THE BREAD                                            (#371)

I come with joy to meet my Lord,

Forgiven, loved, and free,

In awe and wonder to recall

His life laid down for me.

As Christ breaks bread and bids us share,

Each proud division ends,

The love that made us, makes us one,

And strangers now are friends.

SHARING THE CUP                                                  (#330)

Amazing grace!  How sweet the sound,

That saved a wretch like me!

I once was lost, but now am found,

Was blind but now I see.

‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,

And grace my fears relieved;

How precious did that grace appear

The hour I first believed.

GREET EACH OTHER WITH THE PEACE OF CHRIST
