*CALL TO WORSHIP Psalm
1
Happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or take the
path that sinners tread, or sit in the seat of scoffers; but their delight is
in the law of the LORD, and on his law they meditate day and night.
They are like trees
planted by streams of water,
which yield their
fruit in its season, and their leaves
do not wither. In all
that they do, they prosper.
The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives
away. Therefore the wicked will not
stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
for the LORD watches
over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the
wicked will perish.
*HYMN 395: “God of Grace and God of Glory”

ANTHEM: “Sheep May Safely Graze” by
J. S. Bach
*OFFERING We
give Thee but Thine own,
What e'er the
gift may be;
All that we have
is Thine alone,
A trust, O Lord,
from Thee.

THE
GOSPEL: John 17: 6 – 19 pg. 941
read by Cory Anderson
RESPONSIVE CALL TO PRAYER:
Jesus had the ability to see people as gifts from God…
“…Those whom you gave
me…”
And he shared his understanding of giftedness with those who chose to
follow as his disciples…
“Now they know that
everything you have given me
is from you…”
He opened to them his understandings of scripture…
“the words you gave me
I have given to them.”
Not everyone is open to Jesus view of creation and revelation…
Many are bound-up
with a materialistic world
view… The only thing
that matters is what they can
touch or hold.
God of creation, keep us safe from that sterile world view which finds
no place for the mystery of grace and love in this world.
things to be valued
are what we can hold in our
hands.
Open our eyes as Jesus’ were, to see Your image in our neighbors.
Help us to share with
those neighbors the good news
of Your love for the
world. Amen.
*HYMN 446: “Take Time to Be Holy”
SCRIPTURE: Acts 1: 15 – 17, 21 - 26 pg. 947
SERMON:
“Let the Chips Fall Where They May”
*INVITATION
HYMN 2114:
“At the Font We Start Our
Journey”
Decisions of
faith are personal decisions. It is for
us to choose if we will believe in God.
Decisions of faith are also public and corporate decisions. When we choose to follow Jesus we are
choosing to become part of the “Body of Christ”, the Church. If you would like to confirm the decision you
have made to begin your life of faith or continue that life as a part of this
congregation, come forward as we sing the invitational hymn and speak with the
worship leader about your decision.
