PRELUDE “No Other Plea” by Gilbert M. Martin

INTROIT

*CALL TO WORSHIP Psalm 138
I give you thanks, O LORD, with my whole heart;
before the gods I sing your praise;
I bow down toward your holy temple and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness;
for you have exalted your name and your word above everything.
On the day I called, you answered me,
you increased my strength of soul.
All the rulers of the earth shall praise you, O LORD,
for they have heard the words of your mouth.
They shall sing of the ways of the LORD,
for great is the glory of the LORD.
For though You are high, You regard the lowly;
but the haughty You understand from far away.
Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve me against the wrath of my enemies;
you stretch out your hand, and your right hand
delivers me.
LORD, You will fulfill Your purpose for me; your steadfast love, O LORD, endures forever.
Do not forsake the work of your hands.

RESPONSIVE CALL TO PRAYER:
The carpenter’s son was about to show the fishermen and their sons something about fishing…
Jesus, just because you can tell us about boat building, doesn’t mean you can tell us about fishing.
I’ve finished talking… Now, let’s go out where it is deep and catch some fish.
It’s not that easy Jesus. We’ve fished all night and caught nothing… But, whatever you say.
They caught so many fish the nets were breaking. This should have been viewed as an economic bonanza…
Jesus is better than sonar. We’ll be millionaires.
Instead, there was something terribly convicting about the whole experience…
“Depart from me, for I am a sinful person, O Lord.”
Lord God, open our, too comfortable, eyes to your true presence and power.
Keep us from assuming our relationship with You is for our benefit… help us to remember it is for Your glory. Amen.

Decisions of faith are personal decisions. It is for us to choose if we will believe in God. Decisions of faith are also public and corporate decisions. When we choose to follow Jesus we are choosing to become part of the “Body of Christ”, the Church. If you would like to confirm the decision you have made to begin your life of faith or continue that life as a part of this congregation, come forward as we sing the invitational hymn and speak with the worship leader about your decision.
