CALL
TO WORSHIP/LIGHTING THE ADVENT CANDLE
The lights are bright outside: in streets, in
stores, and in homes.
So why should we look for
light in this dark hall?
Because, those lights outside will be darkened
soon: decorations will come down, bulbs will burn out, power may be cut-off.
So,
where is the light that will not fail?
Candle lighter:
Here we have a flame and candles!
UNISON:
Jesus Christ, light of the world, shine in this house, shine in our
hearts, shine in the world through your spirit in and around us.

*BENEDICTION/RESPONSE
POSTLUDE:
“The Heavens Rejoice”
By Todd Kendall
“Christianity
Was once an Eagle Message”
by Nils Bolander
(the closing stanzas)
Christianity
was once a desert sermon,
Mean
and sharp as the terrible africus,
Burning
as the desert sand.
But
we turned it into a garden idyll.
Mignonettes,
asters and pious roses,
A
romantic mood in
Lord,
take care of our pious cowardice!
Give
it swift eagle wings and sharp lion’s claws!
Give
it scent of wild honey and simoom
And
then say with the Baptist’s voice:
This
is the victory that conquers the world.
This
is Christianity.
