*CALL TO WORSHIP                        Psalm 95: 1-6

O come, let us sing to the LORD;

let us make a joyful noise to the rock of

our salvation!

Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving;

let us make a joyful noise to him with

songs of praise!

For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods.

In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also.

The sea is his, for he made it, and the dry land, which his hands have formed. O come, let us worship and bow down,

let us kneel before the LORD, our Maker!

RESPONSIVE CALL TO PRAYER

When we think of celebrations today we think…

            Party! Party!

But celebrations can take many different forms…

We celebrate a person’s life at both birthdays and

funerals.

When Jesus chose a text to define his ministry he chose a text from Isaiah which made reference to the Levitical celebration of jubilee…

            “Proclaim liberty throughout the land.”

Foster asked: “When the poor receive the good news, when the captives are released, when the blind receive their sight, when the oppressed are liberated, who can withhold a shout of jubilee?

Not all of these situations would bring universal shouts for joy.

UNISON:  Eternal God, in creating Your command was “Be fruitful and multiply.”  In creating us, You set us free… You liberated us.  Help us to celebrate with You the joy of liberation.  Help us to welcome as brothers and sisters not just the blind who are healed… but also the poor, the captives and the oppressed.  Amen.

*HYMN:         “Set My Spirit Free”       (See insert & Sing twice)

THE GOSPEL:            John 4: 19 - 24                       pg. 925

SERMON:              “Reasonable Worship”

*INVITATION HYMN 2271:

“Come! Come! Everybody Worship”

Decisions of faith are personal decisions.  It is for us to choose if we will believe in God.  Decisions of faith are also public and corporate decisions.  When we choose to follow Jesus we are choosing to become part of the “Body of Christ”, the Church.  If you would like to confirm the decision you have made to begin your life of faith or continue that life as a part of this congregation, come forward as we sing the invitational hymn and speak with the worship leader about your decision.

*BENEDICTION/RESPONSE
