From the Pastor:

As we begin June we have several very important events coming up.  First on June 8th we will be celebrating Toan Dang’s 25 years here as our custodian, and some of the children of the congregation will be taking part in this celebration.  Toan has been so faithful to this congregation and all of the programs we have hosted over these years.  He has cleaned up after our congregation and Daycare children, as well as setting up for hundreds of dinners, Christmas Eve celebrations, and outside groups like AA/NA, and while making the church clean he has also made it green with his plants.  Thank you all for your generosity in giving to the gift which we will present to Toan on June 8th; at the time it appears the gift will be $2,500.

The second important activity coming up is the Church Picnic at Rocky Point Park, on June 14th.  This year we will be sharing the picnic with the members of the Horizon Church.  The Horizon Congregation was planted, four years ago in the Towson community, by the Southern Baptists, and its membership is predominately young adults.  I met their pastor during the Towson Festival and he indicated his congregation would like to meet some more ‘experienced’ Christians… (I guess that could be us.)  To this end Horizon’s pastor, Mark Stephenson, a graduate of Baylor Divinity School, suggested we have some activities together, and I thought the Church Picnic might be a nice, non-threatening, way for us to first meet each other.  I hope that you will be able to come… enjoy the picnic… and also enjoy meeting the members of Horizon.  We will be having the picnic in the pavilion, so you can come rain or shine… bring board games if it is rain.

One matter of concern which we will need to address in short order has to do with a problem in our air conditioning unit.  We were told, during our annual change-over from heating to cooling, that our chiller unit was leaking and could not be repaired.  At the present time we are awaiting a proposal from Flotron, our servicing agency, and they are having difficulty finding a unit matching the one which we have. Replacing this unit will be expensive and will require us to have a special congregational meeting.  We will discuss this matter and hopefully have a price to discuss in our June 15th meeting.  So these first few weeks of June will be an important time for your active participation.
