The lights are bright outside: in streets, in stores, and in homes.

So why should we look= for light in this dark hall?

Because, those lights outside will be darkened soon: decorations will come down, bulbs will burn out, power may be cut-off= .

&nb= sp; So, where is the light that will not fail?

Candle lighter: Here we have a flame and candles!<= o:p>

RESPONSIVE CALL TO PRAYER:

The author of Deuteronomy believed that it was people of wealth and power who w= ere blessed by God.

"The LORD will make you abound in prosperit= y, in the fruit of your womb, in the fruit of your livestock, and in the fruit= of your ground… The LORD will open for you his rich storehouse, the heav= ens, to give the rain of your land in its season and to bless all your undertaki= ngs. "

So it was believed that God, the Mighty One…

&= nbsp; Smiled down on the mighty ones of earth.

God was the giver of all good and perfect gifts…

&= nbsp; and it was obvious who the gifted were among us.

For this reason Ma= ry's prayer might have come as a surprise to some people

&= nbsp; He has brought down the powerful… and lifted up

the lowly.<= /span>

UNISON: Lord God, help us not to be overly impressed by wealth and power. Open our eyes to your gifts all around us, even among the meek and lowly.
